Emotional health and wellbeing and resilience

Promote a whole school ethos and environment that supports the emotional and mental health of pupils, staff and the wider school community.

Schools and teaching staff can play a significant role in developing and sustaining good emotional and mental health in our children and young people.

Some children are instinctively in tune with their feelings and emotions and will be ready to deal with new or different situations and people more easily. Others may need a bit more help.

Ask yourself:

  • How can you help children or young people to identify and gain a deeper understanding of the feelings they regularly experience?
  • How can you help children or young people develop an emotional vocabulary?
  • How can you help children or young people empathise with others and become aware of how their personal feelings and behaviours can impact upon others?
  • How can you encourage children or young people to be reflective and to understand the consequences of their actions?
  • How can you help children or young people to develop a range of strategies and encourage them to express emotions in appropriate ways?

You can find all the plans to transform services for children, young people and young adults’ emotional wellbeing and mental health at the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Service website.
